Content Files Tab

Use the Content Files tab to add, delete, and view a list of added content files. A content file is a file that you use when running a test, such as a PCAP file, streaming file, Wave file, or SMTP attachment that is referenced in an Action list.

A content file repository exists for each project. When you select a test, you can view the list of content files for the project. When you run a test, Commander uploads content files to the load generators that the test uses.

The first time you run a test with large content, the test start time will be delayed, due to the time needed to upload the content files. However, on subsequent test runs, the start time will improve, as Commander uploads the content only once. Moreover, it uploads content files on a per-user basis, thus avoiding contention when multiple users upload content with identical names.

NOTE: If a second user runs the same test as a previous user, and uploads the same content, the second user will still experience the test start delay, because Commander manages content on a per-user basis.

The Content Files resource allows you to manage configuration data referenced by name in the Action list. The content files are not part of the Action list, but are separate, nameable entities. For protocol-specific details, see the topics under Related Information.

NOTES:

  • The top-level Content Files tab and the Content Files tab on the Client Actions tab contain views of the same information. They are located in two places simply for convenience.
  • To create HTTP Body content files, use the HTTP Content tab on the Actions tab.
  • For unicast streaming, use the Content Files tab to manage the streaming files. For multicast streaming, use the Server Profiles tab Mcast emulation.

From the Content Files tab on the Client Actions tab, use the buttons in the left pane to create, copy, rename, or delete a content file.

From the top-level Content Files tab, use the Add/Delete buttons to create/delete a content file.
