Using the Technology Selector

Use the Technology Selector, to specify technologies you want to use in your test. Spirent TestCenter updates the interface based on your selections, adding relevant objects to the system tree, configuration windows, and Results Browser. Only information relevant to the session appears. Unnecessary information for unused technologies is not exposed.

TIP: Your selections in the Technology Selector also control the list of live result data statistics in the Result Selector. See TestCenter IQ Settings: Result Selector Tab for more information.

Open the Technology Selector

Use any of the following procedures to open the Technology Selector window.

To open the Technology Selector using the Launch Window:

1. Click the Power Mode icon.
2. Select an available option to connect to chassis and reserve or manage ports.
• Connect to Chassis and Reserve Ports

Select this option to launch the Select Ports window, connect to one or more chassis, and reserve ports.

• Create Ports for use offline

Select this option to create ports without connecting to a chassis. Offline ports can be brought online at any time.

• Reserve Port Sets

If you have already created a port set it is listed in this section. If you have not reserved a port set or if you want to reserve another port set, select a port set name and then use the Select Ports window to reserve ports.

• Reserve Recent Ports

Your recent chassis connections are listed here. If you are not already connected to a chassis, or if you want to add another chassis, click this link. Use the Select Ports dialog to connect to a chassis and reserve ports.



3. Click the Next button to open the Technology Selector window.

To open the Technology Selector using the Technologies button:

1. Close all open dialog windows.
2. Click the Technologies button.

To open the Technology Selector using the Tools menu:

1. Close all open dialog windows.
2. Select Tools > Technologies in the main menu bar.

Specify Technologies using the Technology Selector

Select the technologies you want to include in your test configuration. Your selections enable technology-specific configuration features in the Spirent TestCenter interface.

To select technologies using the Technology Selector:

1. Launch the Technology Selector using one of the methods described above.

2. Click the checkboxes to select technologies.

3. Click OK to close the Technology Selector dialog box.
4. (Optional) Save the configuration with the current technology selections using one of the following methods:
• Select File > Save
• Select File > Save as

Deselect Technologies using the Technology Selector

You can remove selected technologies from your test configuration.

NOTE: Before you attempt to deselect a technology, you must delete hosts, generators, and routers that are configured with that technology.

To deselect technologies using the Technology Selector:

1. Delete hosts, generators, and routers that are configured with the technology you want to deselect.
2. Click on a previously selected checkbox to deselect it.
3. Click OK to close the Technology Selector dialog box.

NOTE: If a technology is still in use by a host, generator, or router, Spirent TestCenter warns you that the specific technology cannot be deselected. If you receive this message, close the Technology Selector and delete the relevant host, generator, or router. Reopen the Technology Selector and repeat steps 2 and 3.
