Background: Setting Up Emulated Devices

 

Use the Interface Editor to modify data objects used by devices.

To launch the Interface Editor:

  1. Navigate to the protocol configuration tabs using either of the following options in the system tree at the left of the Test Configuration window:

    • Click All Devices.
    • Expand All Ports, expand a port node, and then select Devices under the port node.
  2. On the Emulated Device Interface tab in the Devices or All Devices grid, click in the cell next to a port name to select it.
  3. Click the Edit Interface button in the toolbar above the grid to display the Interface Editor dialog.

 

To edit or create protocol properties, use the following controls:

 

To create Variable Field Definitions:

Click the cell in the Value column adjacent to the Modifier cell in the Name column. When modifiers are available, the Actions pane on the left of the dialog displays the Edit Modifier link. Click this link to open a configuration window.

NOTE: Modifiers apply to hosts, not routers.

Insert Vlan Inserts a VLAN ID in the header
Edit Modifier (MAC, WWNN, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses)

Click Edit Modifier under Actions in the left pane to display the Configure Modifier dialog box. 

Select the step mode (Increment or List) from the Type field. List provides a list of values.

If Increment is selected, enter a value in the Value(s) box and a step value in the Step box.

Click the Advanced checkbox to enable access to Stack Count, Repeat and Recycle boxes.

Modify the step sequence using the Stack Count (number of values generated), Step (step value), Repeat (number of times each value is repeated) and Recycle (maximum value) boxes.

If the Recycle value is reached, the numbering restarts at the number specified in Value(s) box.

If List is selected, enter a comma-separated list of values in the Value(s) box, or click > to display the Import Values dialog box. Click Import or Export to import/export values to/from a file.

NOTES:

  • Only use Stack Count to create multiple IP, MAC, WWNN, or VLAN values per host or lower layer protocol.
  • If the value of the Source MAC is modified, then the value of the Destination MAC must also be modified.
Edit Modifier (IP Gateway)

Displays the Configure Gateway Modifier dialog box. Select the Type.

Selecting Configure Gateway Modifier (Range Type) enables fields for defining a range of gateway IP addresses.

Selecting Use Source IP Range Modifier for Gateway configures the Gateway Modifier to match the modifier for the source IP address.

If Range Type is selected, enter a value in the Value(s) box, a step value in the Step box, and a repeat value i the Repeat Count box.
